BULTACO
|
On a cloudy Saturday morning Roger steps to the board and replies the Bultaco Relay Team was a last minute effort we had no plan on running but when Brian Aanderberg asked aout it, it sealed the deal and well it was a blast! It was a personal great for me as 3 of the 4 bikes on the team I built from the crank up, and it was the first vintage event for my son in law Eddie Hernandez. it was great to be back around VDR folks again. Thanks to all and lets do it again. Roger Landberg |

I got a decent start, and found myself behind Ron Pomeroy & Chris Gray, and they were both pushing like mad- and I was on my game, but I couldn't QUITE put my wheel past Chris. I found the best place to pass was the evil long and VERY fast downhill which ended in a barbed wire fence, and I passed a number of people in various motos, but Chris was pushing exactly as hard as me, and we three arrived first- my awesome team mates Jay Lael & Mark Schmidt waving at me, and I slid to a stop and off went the wrist-band. Somehow even though I was right close behind Chris I couldn't have told you that he missed the exit to the handoff area. So we gained a place right there in the pits, but we couldn't catch the Bultaco Team- they were the real winners. It was an awesome race. All the competitors were respectful of each other and I saw more people laughing- really a fantastic time. -SIEGE |

Hellfire Jonathan Stuart Scot Hasenkamp Mike Boersema |
After much deliberation about who was going to go in what order and what bikes we were actually going to be riding (as we were have a slew of mechanical difficulties and crash damage) it finally came down to Jonathan and Hellfire's bikes and the riding order being decided as the starting grid gathered. 1. H.F. 2. Johnny 7 3. Scotty and anchoring the team Mikey. At the end of the first lap H.F. had us at a respectable middle of the pack 6th or 7th I think....into the pits, hard on the brakes, hands firmly gripping the bars, which made it hard to get the band off of his wrist. Off I ran through a haze of blue smoke and dust, the smell of bean oil filling the air. with a quick slip of the band and a pat on the ass Johnny 7 was off. As he disappeared around the first corner I thought to myself, "please don't pitch it again Johnny 7......please." My prayers answered J-7 tore into the pits. As I looked over my left shoulder waiting for the band, hand nervously blipping the throttle, I saw H.F. emerge from the same cloud of organized chaos. On with the band and out of the pits I rode, my very first ride on H.F.'s CR 250 Screaming into the first corner, hot on another riders tail, my foot firmly jammed onto the case cover and not the brake pedal I managed to blow through both ribbons but end up back on track. A brave battle the entire lap. I put the screws to my worthy opponent and stuck it to him in the uphill right hander with those sweet little step up jumps in it. Into the pits I tore, hard on the brakes hands firmly gripping the bars, did I mention it's hard to get the band off your wrist when your doing that. Off with the band and with that, the final lap......."C'mon Mikey" 3 minutes seems like an eternity when you can't see the track. Still chaos and commotion all around but if your team is on it's final lap you could here a pin drop. To no surprise here's the Hodaka team but no sign of Mikey........Bike number 306, "CRAP Sieges team is in! but wait......HOLY S$#@ it's MIkey!" "WE'VE GOT THIRD" I exclaimed, and then quickly covered my mouth so as to jinx us any further. With a cool look over his shoulder Mike knew he had her dialed and coasted in for a podium finish. A brilliant team effort and the most fun I've had riding in years. Scot. |
