JEREMY FOGG One thing I really hate is discovering something really cool just to find out that its about to disappear. Saturday at Alderdale MX park was a mix of emotions for me. At first seeing the track from a distance was exciting. I could hardly wait to go shooting down that big hill with the uphill jumps at the end. When I got on the track that excitement turned to shear terror. After a couple of laps I started having second thoughts about racing on Sunday. After getting off the track and then going back for more a few times I felt myself going a little faster and getting a little more aggessive. By the end of the day I was really tired and looking forward to Sunday. Sunday racing was really exciting. The expert vintage guys were amazing. Those bikes really fly. and the ground shakes when they land. Racing in the -40 evo am class was the highlite of my day. I found an even match with a +40 guy on a Husqvarna. We must have passed each other 4 times during that race. I found that to be a really fun track and I am now looking forward to Port Angeles. I just wish the Alderdale MX park stayed open. |

JT KROUPA I thought that the H@T was rad! That was the first time I've gone camping in 15 years or more. I could wake up at the track like that everyday, always. The track was outstanding. I learned so much about my bike there. My suspension causes me physical pain when landing from big air so I've got to get angry. I've got to punish the bike, punish the track, make them pay. Then I can land with a deep, gutteral sound. The sound of accomplishment. I would like to have pursued that alternate line that started past the corner that followed the uphill double. I might have been on to something if I could have held it before jumping the cliff; back onto the track. Could-a, would-a, should-a. Way excited about the Port Angeles races. I'm trying to get more friends from the Fifteen and beyond to go up with us. I'm sure going up for racing will be more entertaining than the last time I went there, since getting refused entry to Canada was the highlight of that trip. I've never seen pictures of the track but I'm into the modern jumps. Anyone can jump big on a modern set-up, but doing it with 4 inches of travel.... that takes balls........ JT Kroupa

COLE CABLER I was lucky enough to be done with my motos to get a chance to see some really great racing in the afternoon. One race I will never forget is the battle going on between Rick Poulin, Jim Pomeroy, and Ron Pomeroy. This race was completely awesome, even more so by the fact that it was one of the last races of the day, very hot, and this is the +50 vintage class. Lap after lap it was non-stop; pushing those old bikes to the limit, pushing each other to the limit. The ease at which they went fast showed at every jump and every corner. They never hesitated whether it was the big tabletop, a sharp corner, or the downhill doubles. You could see it was constant gas, brakes (not very much of that), or air- and big air. They were defining the phrase Hammer & Tongs during that race and it was awesome. There was a lot of that that day actually. The track made a lot of people (certainly me) step back and think a little more about what they could do and what the bike could do. But, then it was race time and that's what people did, raced their pants off. A few more races like this and Woodland is going to be a heck of a lot faster! - Cole |
