Washougal
H&T Wire
It
was a roaring success. It was fantastic, even with one sunny Saturday
and one rainy Sunday.
Entries came in at a spectacular 482. Despite discussion of
whether the track would be suitable, the whoops
were taken out and replaced by a rough straightaway before the finish
flag. The whole track is old school anyway, despite the modern National
there every August. The result was a GLORIOUS Vintage Track. For those
not there, Horsepower Hill is long & steep, and as you crest the
top
you had a bizarre experience of weightlessness, and your feet float
up off the pegs- you sort of grip the bars and say Holy $%ÎÝ
to yourself as you arrive involuntarily in the following left hander.
There
were some terrific battles up and down the classes- a number of California
Riders made the trip- but the winner of the long distance award went
to East Coast OSSA man Robert Haag who flew all the way from Mass
to take the +50 Vintage Expert Class, after mixing it up with Russ
Hoehn & Doug Hafsos. Northwest racer Dave Bunker made a return
to racing. See adjoining Article. Sunday's
drizzle never let up. and the track was altered Sunday afternoon to
take out the hills as has been done at Ward Creek for inclement conditions.
A
great thanks to Dirk Williams is in order, and to everyone on the
Washougal Track Crew. Additionally my own thanks to Debbie Sullivan
and her crew scoring- to all the Photographers whose contributions
made this website look like something. So that
puts 3 of 5 in the 2007 Hammer & Tongs Season in the books. With
weather as an element WASHOUGAL
2008 will June 28-29.
