Andrew Sullivan, on fire at Woodland Vintage Results Evo Results

• Top Dogthe Revelation of the Race Day had to be Andrew Sullivan, always quick, but this time he smoked Joe Casey in the morning and Randy Skiver AND his dad (Mark Sullivan) in both motos, (!!!) This is unprecedented; I think I'm right in saying nobody beats those three. Until now. It was outstanding. Joe Casey held him back in the afternoon moto, but just barely, and Andrew would come into the left hander into the carrousels, so hot that as I stood there I each time thought: he's not going to make it, but each time he'd hit the berm and go snorting after Joe threading the needle at every corner. Andrew's bike is an Elsinore with an XL250 engine.

Woodland • Jonathan Stuart used to make a face that was the look of exasperation- a frown with a wide closed mouth. This is the expression you made in 9th grade when your most hated adversary starts dating the new attractive girl. (that you were developing a crush on) As I drove down to Woodland without my race bikes, I looked in the rearview mirror and made this face at myself. Last month I fell at the Premier Classic Race at the Farm on slippery grass- no one's fault but mine- and though I've crashed at 500 mph though schools and other brick structures many times and been fine, this time, though I was only going about 2 miles an hour I managed to rip a muscle in my shoulder. I am still recovering, but I found myself court-martialed and reduced to rank- now only the Team manager for Hellbent Racing. argh. Ok.

Weather • By the end of the day we had brilliant sunshine, and it looked like a postcard, and the track could NOT have been better. The awesome thing about Woodland, and the main reason we can run such a successful Season, is specifically because the earth is volcanic silt, and when it's been raining for days it sets up perfectly. The Weather Report had called for showers, and a few hopeless churchmice stayed at home lest they have to race in mud. (oh my god!) Some guys will drive for 3 days to California races, where it's guaranteed to be sunny, but not support local races. Whatever. Meanwhile, I'm pleased to report we had a fantastic time. It did rain at first, and I borrowed a coat from Scot, and pulled on my hip waders- causing many to make the standard joke: "going fishing?" (Actually they're very comfy in mucky conditions.) But the rain faded off by the end of practice, and it began to be brighter and brighter and by noon there were blue spots in the sky. By the end of the day it was perfect- looked like a postcard, with cartoon birds singing in the trees. By mid-day I was way too hot, and had to change into civilian clothes.

New Racers • There were a number of brand new racers- (or recent new racers) all beaming by the end of the day. Newcomer top the XR75 Class was Keaton Branstetter, Also Casey Rutter (both pictured below) Chris Boyette • Patrick NadeanPeter SteilbergJeff RamsdellJeremy FoggJerry JamesDan Wojfwdn (sp?)

• 100cc Class • Hammer & Tongs evidently is having some influence here in the Northwest; VDR has now introduced a 100 CC Class, just like the old days, which will support Hodakas and 100cc Kawasakis, etcetera. Seven entrants on the gate: Nick Chapman ran away with it predictably, followed by Thal Anderson, both on Hodakas. Brad Stagg was 3rd on his Yamaha.
