Killer Bees In case anyone hasn't been paying attention, the 125 Vintage & 125 Evolution Classes have taken to being dominated by the Killer Bees: Brendan Blair & Brandon Butler. It's confusing because they have similar names, and similar approaches- ie to crush everyone else. Brendan has floated to the top of the 125 Vintage Class on his distinctive shocking blue CR125, starting last year. Brandon, racing a CR125R has won every moto this year in Evo 125am. Woodland in November The weather was just right- a little foggy in the morning, and then sweet sunlight later. On-Group Emails flying the next day are usually an indication. Notes & Battle Reports down at the bottom of this page. To join this Chat Group 100 Stats: The 100 Class had 9 entrants! Only the 125 & 250 Vintage am classes are bigger than the new 100cc Class with 12 or so. That's noteworthy and excellent, and also humorous, because it points up that we are about the RACING, not only the value or prestige of bikes. Which we also have of course. It also gives young riders who are graduating out of XR75s somewhere to race before they go to 125, which is not slow. However Lyndel Raphael was roaring around on his Orange Hodaka like a man posessed, taking the am win. Now of course I'm scheming to get a 100cc Racer! I'd say we have it all! New Faces Again second race in a row we had a platoon of new riders. JT Kroupa turned up with a King Scorpion Montesa, and almost got the holeshot in his second ever moto. Troy Luchini #94 Yamaha MX360 in his first race in 25 years, roaring and slicing through the field, he took the lead on the second lap, (#94 photo right as took the lead) and was poised to win the moto when the chain came off- but he was 2 corners away from the checkered flag! Next time... Who else? Megan Anderberg (#45 Kawasaki) snorted in to take the women's class, Kirk Javes #45 Kawasaki, Mike Myer 17 CZ.
BRITT BOYETTE : Woodland was a blast today! The weather turned out nice and racing was first class. A special thanks to Jay Lael helping with my son's carb tuning on his RM370, you now have God-like status in his eyes. We got it back on line just in time to our make moto 18's 1st run. - Britt JAY LAEL: My pleasure helping get that purty RM running as well as it looks! Jim Conway's Maico 490 needed the same treatment, as it was running lean, pinging and hard to start. It's nice to be able to help with something so easy to do that gives such a tangible reward. I'm sure you are starting to notice that I don't mince words. :) (I walked up and said, "That thing runs like sh*t! What's wrong with it?) Totally a loaded question as I was itching to fix it. Woodland was so fun today!! Here's to you all my vintage motocross brothers! - Jay DAN CUNHA: Woodland was AWESOME today, the track was perfect! with one big fun mudhole to challenge us, the rest was 100% traction. I really liked watching the 100 class riders battle it out, great seeing those bikes out there racing each other. I remember Indian Dunes the 100 class was huge with a lot of tricked out Hodakas. I had a 72 LT1 Yamaha MX back then and if I had one now I would line up and race the 100 class. I really loved the double gate's that they tried out today. For those of you who missed this awesome weekend, The starter would let one class go then run back set the starting gate and reset everyone gate, run back and pull the lever! Two waves of starts for the classes that are combined. Similar to how it was done at Chehalis! I welcome this change and thank the STARTER for making it happen who ever he is? That guy got one heck of a work out! Thanks again who ever you are. It was great! Hey does anyone have a stock throttle tube for a 81 YZ250? I will pay you some $$ I broke mine today... See you next round - Dan |

THOM GREEN Hey Dan, No doubt... that track was awesome. It is nice to be back. I hated to miss last month but it was either that or miss the ISDT reunion ride. Any way, The track was traction to the max. The mud made it interesting. What worked in the morning did not work in the afternoon. I got passed because I took a line that was fast in the morning but was not as fast in the afternoon. That is motocross. The Double gates was a welcome site. It really helped to keep us separated. That was great. Can't wait for next month. Sorry I missed the 100's My bike was giving me some trouble and I was busy trying to figure out what the problem was. It turned out to be two fold. Partly my fault and partly it was just jetted incorrectly. Live and learn.- Thom SCOTT MCALLISTER I had a great race with Mark Schmidt in moto 11 (Unlimited). He was ahead of me the whole race and every lap I would get a little closer...close enough to show him a wheel or two on the back part of the track after coming out of the trees. I could get real close but couldn't find a way around him. If only I'd had a couple more laps (how many times have you heard that one)... What a great day of racing...by the way, thanks for not taking my picture when I crashed right in front of you! :-) Oh yeah...I really like the double gates. It's nice knowing who you're racing against. I know...you should be racing against everybody, but it's nice to know when a pass counts for points! Hope to see in the dirt soon! 996 MIKE CARUSO The track was outstanding. I loved the fact that the wooded area was still plenty muddy most of the day. It has a way of separating the men from the boys. Randy Mac and I were dueling it out in the second moto, I got past him in the second corner I think he got caught in slower traffic. With in a few corners I could hear him back there and knew I had to keep on it. I managed to keep him at bay but coming over the tunnel jump I took the outside line. I saw him as we were coming up the jump slow down and head inside. The line had changed I missed it. The inside line had dried up enough to allow for much better traction. Randy pulled by me and I gassed it to keep him from heading me off at the next corner. He got a wheel in front of me and there was no place to go. I hit the binders hard and stalled the bike. I kicked it and it sprang back to life. Randy was gone and Maddog got by me too. By the time I got to the back straight they had a good 35 yard on me and I opened it up and made it my mission to get the ground I had lost back. Randy was pulling away from me on the straights but I was faster than him in the tight stuff. I kept on it and looked for ways to cut my lap times. By the end of the race I had managed to catch Maddog and Randy was only a few bike lengths in front of him. That was the best. I stopped by Randy's pit and congratulated him on a great race. He earned it. Next time Randy! TOM MCALLISTER Just had to throw in my 2 cents worth. In my pre 70 moto they lumped us in with the 60+ Vintage guys and I gotta say I saw first hand how good a rider Ross Roberts is. We both were out front, dead even going into the first turn, he was on the inside of me and I just hoped that whoever was there, that they held there line. He did and out accelerated me to the next turn. I followed him around until he either stalled or fell in the big deep rut of a berm following the table top in the woods. I cut to the inside of him to go around but he got going and took off like a scalded cat, not wanting me to pass him. We were side by side again but that Bultaco squirted over backwards looping out hard. That bike launched like a top fuel funny car. I heard later that he was fine but had broken his handlebars. That was an exciting get off! Also I thought the double gate action was awesome. I would even volunteer to flip gates once in a while. |
